Netcong is a borough located in Morris County, New Jersey. The borough’s population is estimated to be around 3,173 people. Although originally established as South Stanhope, it became Netcong in 1889 when a Post Office used the name. Netcong was incorporated as a borough in 1894 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. The name probably comes from the fact that the town lies on the shores of Lake Muskonetcong. Netcong is bordered by the Morris County municipalities of Mount Olive Township and Roxbury Township, and also by Stanhope in Sussex County.
