Home-Based Business Insurance: Do You Have the Coverage You Need?

Insurance for Home Business: What Insurance Should Home-Based Businesses Have?

Home-Based Business Insurance: Do You Have the Coverage You Need?
Bogle Agency Insurance, your NJ insurance experts

Curious about home-based business insurance? More importantly, do you have the coverage you need for your home-based business? This is an important question to ask yourself if you are operating a business from your Bergen County home. Starting a business from home is exactly where many businesses begin these days. Unfortunately, insurance is often overlooked. Furthermore, some home-based business owners assume to be covered by their NJ homeowners insurance policy. Unfortunately, a homeowners policy does not always offer the necessary coverage.

Does Your Home-Based Business Need Insurance?

Not every home-based business has the same insurance needs. While some of these needs may be met by the simple addition of a rider to the homeowner’s insurance policy other options may be needed. Other options include an in-home business insurance policy or simply a commercial insurance policy. The important thing to remember is that business insurance protects you from claims that could destroy your business. A claim could be as as simple as a delivery person injuring himself when delivering a package to your business.

A company does not have to be large to warrant insurance. It is the particulars that will change additional provision to the policy that is best for you. Insurance needs vary from one business to the next and determining how much coverage is required depends on your comfort level. This decision is best decided upon with a highly qualified Lyndhurst NJ insurance agent.

Types of Home-based Business Insurance Coverage Vary

Types of commercial insurance coverage include coverage for equipment breakdown, the interruption of business, data loss, and data breach. If you have employees you may need Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI). The list is long when it comes to NJ commercial insurance coverage.

Home-based businesses vary and so do their insurance needs. If you have a home-based business and are curious about the coverage you need, you should sit down with a reputable insurance agent. Bogle Agency Insurance is a premier insurance provider in Bergen County NJ.

Winter Preparation for your Home & Business

Is Your Home or Business Ready for Winter? | Bogle Agency Insurance

Preparing your home for winter | Bogle Agency Insurance

Is your home or business prepared for winter? This is an important question to ask yourself. Winter readiness can save you from undue stress and prevent you from having to perform costly repairs. . Snow loads and freezing temperatures are but two things that can do a number on a building or a property. Preparing your home and business for winter is important! Your Lyndhurst NJ Insurance Agency is a great resource for this process.

Whether you’re preparing your home for winter or preparing your business for winter, it doesn’t have to be challenging. For starters, you can take the time to make sure all outdoor plumbing is turned off and irrigation lines have been blown out. Frozen pipes can burst and cause significant damage. Ensuring that any pipes that are exposed to cold temperatures are insulated is important as well. While some homeowners insurance policies cover frozen pipes, you need to check with your insurance agent to make sure that you are covered in the event of burst plumbing in your house and property. Insurance companies say you should have your heating system checked regularly as well. Keeping a home or business warm is important! While you do not need to keep your home hot, it should be warm enough that the pipes cannot freeze!

It is also important to keep your gutters clear of leaves and ice. Blocked gutters can cause significant damage to your home such as major roof leaks, or permanently damaging your gutter system. Many insurance policies do not cover damages caused by clogged gutters. To prevent clogged or blocked gutters, you can use heat tape (heat cable) to prevent an ice buildup during the winter months. You can also hire a local gutter cleaning service to make sure your gutters are not clogged with leaves during the fall. Insurance companies also insist that you perform a seasonal check of your gutters to make sure you are not in danger of any potential damages.

A lack of preparation can hurt your home and business more than you know. If damage occurs to your home or business due to negligence, you may not be covered by homeowners insurance or business insurance. The lesson here lies in preparation. Planning ahead, taking precautionary measures and ensuring your home is up to par with regulations can help you ease your mind. Damages caused during winter months due to negligence, such as clogged gutters, are not usually covered by insurance. However, by taking precautionary measures, you can decrease the likelihood of damage and your own personal liability.

Bogle Agency Insurance Included In IIABA Best Practices Study

Lyndhurst, NJ, August 17, 2017 – Bogle Agency Insurance retains its IIABA Best Practices status, once again becoming a part of an elite group of independent insurance agencies around the United States. This status comes by participating in the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA or the Big “I”) Best Practices Study group. The annual survey and Study of leading independent insurance agencies documents the business practices of the “best” agencies and urges others to adopt similar practices.

Since 1993, IIABA and Reagan Consulting, an Atlanta-based management consulting firm, have join forces to study the country’s leading agencies in six revenue categories. The agencies comprising the study groups are selected every third year through a comprehensive nomination and qualifying process and awarded a “Best Practices Agency” designation. The agency was nominated by either an IIABA affiliated state association or an insurance company and qualified based on its operational excellence.

The selected Best Practices agencies retain their status during the three-year cycle by submitting extensive financial and operational data for review each year. This is the second year of the current three-year study cycle, where over 1500 independent agencies throughout the U.S. were nominated to take part in the annual study in 2016, but only 262 agencies qualified for the honor. To be chosen, the agency had to be among the 35-45 top-performing agencies in one of six revenue categories.

This is the 14th consecutive year that Bogle Agency Insurance has received the Best Practices award!

Will Your Homeowners Insurance Cover A Fallen Tree?

NJ Homeowners Insurance Coverage | Bergen County NJ

NJ Homeowners Insurance Coverage | Bergen County NJ

Will your homeowners insurance cover a fallen tree? It is a common question when it comes to NJ Homeowners Insurance Coverage. As homeowners, we all deal with the intricacies of  homeowners insurance.  Most of us never think about whether we will actually use our NJ Homeowners Insurance Coverage, never mind thinking about what specific incidents are covered. Then one day you need it and you have no idea what is covered. So, what about that fallen tree?

Trees fall and when they fall they may land on something valuable like a car, your home, or your neighbor’s fence. These mishaps can be quite costly, especially because they are unexpected. It is important to know what your insurance covers with respect to the fallen tree. First off, damage to your home and other structures on your property is covered, although there is typically a cap on any structure other than the home. It also does not matter whether the tree was on your property or a neighboring property.

It is also worthy to note that you are responsible for your deductible. This deductible can be significantly different if the tree fell as a result of a classified hurricane. Sit down with your Bergen County insurance agent to discuss the difference and what your coverage is in the event of a hurricane.

Other interesting tidbits related to homeowners insurance covering a fallen tree include:

  • If the tree in question fell on your car it will be covered by your comprehensive auto insurance.
  • Trees knocked over by water or wind will not have replacement coverage.
  • The replacement cost of a tree will be covered if it fell as a result of vandalism.

Life Insurance Premiums

Factors that Affect Life Insurance Premiums

Factors that affect life insurance premiums
Bogle Agency Insurance, answering all of your questions about life insurance

Factors that affect life insurance premiums include health and habits. Some factors may only increase your premiums slightly, but others can create a big difference. Anything viewed as a risk to your health and lifespan will affect the cost of your insurance policy. If you are worried about your eligibility or the cost of an insurance policy take the time to sit down with your NJ insurance agent. Your agent will be able to explain the differences between policies and what risks you have that will affect your premiums.

Personal Habits that Can Affect Insurance Policies

Habits that will affect your insurance include smoking cigarettes, drinking heavily, and overall risky behavior. Your age is an important factor as well. Purchasing a policy in your twenties is certainly cheaper than purchasing one in your forties. Usually, health concerns include high cholesterol levels, excessive weight, and disease.

Policy Details that Can Affect Insurance Prices

Another factor that affects life insurance premiums is the length of the policy; typically, a 30 year term is going to cost you more than a 10 year term. The longer the policy the more likely death could occur within its term, therefore higher premiums. All of the factors that affect the cost associated with a life insurance policy will be discussed with your Bergen County insurance agent. Take the time to evaluate your needs in a policy and what your goals are while also determining the risk you pose as the insured.

Why Use an Insurance Agent?

Bergen County NJ Insurance Agent | Bogle Agency Insurance

NJ business insurance
Bogle Agency Insurance, your Lyndhurst NJ insurance experts

Most people search for everything online these days, and insurance agents are no exception. However, it’s important to realize that search results simply cannot replace human interaction and local knowledge. If you are looking for a particular type of insurance in Bergen County, our independent insurance agents at Bogle Agency Insurance can help you find the coverage you need.

What Do Insurance Agents Do For The Customer?

In the simplest terms, an insurance agent works as a liaison between you and the insurance company, providing all of your administration needs and helping you find coverage that suits your needs. There are two types of insurance agents: captive and independent. Captive agents represent one company and independent agents provide a conduit to numerous agencies. Bogle Insurance Agency acts as an independent insurance agent, offering you access to numerous products from a variety of companies, ensuring that you get the coverage you need from the insurance company that will provide you with the best value and service. Insurance agents act on behalf of the insurance companies they are representing.

An insurance broker is a licensed and educated individual who has the ability to analyze the needs of a business. This is similar to an independent agent but in this case, a broker is required to hold a broker’s license. As a result, there is a higher liability associated with the license and the expertise a broker provides. There is often a charge associated with a brokerage as well in addition to the commission realized from the insurance company. Brokers represent the insured.
